Derek Frykas is a monster multi-instrumentalist and composer, featured here primarily on tenor saxophone and as head arranger for the mighty Highway 3 Horns. Formally trained with degrees in music and education, Derek is an early years music educator by day, a jazz-blowing firebrand by night. His extra-curricular activities include travelling extensively playing onboard Princess Cruise Lines, sax chairs in The Winnipeg Jazz Collective, as well as both the West Side and East Side Jazz Orchestras. He has also performed national profile concerts with The Ceremonial Guard Band and the band of the Royal Winnipeg Rifles. Aligned with JP and corrupted by the blues, Derek’s killer chops and jazzy arrangements have been instrumental to the band.
